About Restaurante La Copaleña

Introducing Restaurante La Copaleña Restaurant, a laid-back spot I like to describe as one of those places you don’t just visit, you settle into. Tucked away in Guanacaste Province, this restaurant sits along Calle Copal in Playa Copal, about one kilometer north and a short turn left, making it feel pleasantly off the main path while still easy to find. From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere leans casual and welcoming, the kind of vibe that invites you to slow down, talk a little longer, and actually enjoy where you are. Outdoor seating is a big draw here, especially when the coastal breeze rolls through, although dine-in seating feels just as relaxed and unpretentious. If you’re on the move or heading back to the beach, takeaway is also a convenient option without losing that local charm. The menu focuses on approachable flavors rather than overcomplication, which makes it ideal for a quick bite that still feels satisfying. Small plates are perfect for sharing, whether you’re catching up with friends or easing into the evening. Drinks are a strong part of the experience, with cold beer, well-mixed cocktails, and a solid selection of wine and spirits that pair easily with the food. Coffee is available too, which fits naturally into the all-day rhythm of the place. Alcohol service is handled in an easygoing way, never rushed, never pushy, and always aligned with the relaxed pace of Playa Copal life. What really stands out to me about Restaurante La Copaleña is how effortlessly it balances being a true restaurant with feeling like a local hangout, offering just enough variety in food and drinks to suit different moods, plans, and appetites while keeping everything simple, friendly, and grounded in its surroundings. It works equally well for casual lunches, relaxed sunset stops, or low-key dinners, and the overall experience stays consistent, approachable, and people-focused, making first-time visitors feel comfortable while giving regulars plenty of reasons to keep coming back.

Great staff and service. "Popeye", our waiter who looks like Cristiano Ronaldo is the best waiter we've ever had the pleasure to meet -- everything that you'd expect in a great waiter to be like , he is that! He is attentive, knowledgeable, and very professional. Im particular when it comes to tipping, and I can say Popeye truly deserved the tip! Came here for lunch and dinner. Tasty dishes at reasonable prices. Lunch and dinner menu are the same. I'm allergic to seafood and they have ample non-seafood dishes. Best part is the view and the customer service. Get here before sunset to see the phenomenal view of the ocean and mountains. Overall a wonderful experience!

This should be a Michelen star restaurant. We were in the area for 5 days and had food here everyday. Special thanks to Keslher, Jasson, Nosan, Luis and Carlos (I hope the dictation of names are correct). You guys are super professional and nice. Cheers

Hands down, the best restaurant in the area. The meals are plentiful and well prepared and presented. View of Salinas Bay is special and worth it alone. We came back a second time cause we liked it so much. The ceviche is the best we have had On this trip so far and you can’t go wrong with any of the meat or seafood dishes. We did lobster and octopus one night and a surf and turf The next and red snapper as well. All were incredible.

Great food! Nice service. The shrimp and rice came with salad, avocado, and some rather tasty fries. The seafood soup (I had it in water based broth rather than milk) was very flavorful and included a nice mix of lobster, calamari, shrimp, fish, mussels, and a little veggies. It came with patacones and rice. There is a view. There were many locals eating there.

Spectacular view and quiet environment. Super nice and attentive waiters. The food is amazing, breakfast wasn’t on the menu but they gladly made omelettes and fresh fruits. Wonderful hidden gem in Playa Copal.

We visited 4 months ago and I still have dreams about this ceviche This is the hidden place where the locals eat. Some men who worked at Dreams Las Maread told us about this restaurant, and we had to try it out! So glad we did. Seriously, that ceviche. It was mixed with all kinds of fish and octopus. They use some kind of hybrid lemon/orange fruit as the juice base. Just wow!! The paella was also incredible. Highly highly recommend. The lobster was also cooked amazing. We're both not huge lobster folks but could appreciate the dish. Everything was super inexpensive. I remember we paid $60 for all this and 3 alcoholic drinks. To think that this amazing restaurant is with walking distance of that huge resort! Such a shame that some visitors eat hotel food during their entire trip! This is a must try for EVERYONE who is staying at Dreams. Hope to get the pleasure of having this meal again very soon. Even if we visit and stay 2 hours away, I will make that journey!
